තොරතුරු හා සන්නිවේදන තාක්ෂණයේදී බොහෝ විට දීර්ඝ වචන සහ නාමයන් යෙදෙන අවස්තාවන් තිබෙනවා. එවැනි දිගු නම් මතක තබා ගැනීමේ සහ භාවිතයේ ඇති අපහසුතාවය නිසා කෙටි කර දැක්වීම සිදුවෙනවා. ගොඩක් වෙලාවට දීර්ඝ නම් වල මුල් අකුරු කැපිටල් ලෙස ගනිමින් තමයි මෙම කෙටි යෙදුම් සකස්වී තිබෙන්නේ.
